Description

Vanwall was a motor racing team and racing car constructor that was active in Formula One during the 1950s. The team achieved their first race win in the 1957 British Grand Prix, with Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks sharing a VW 5, earning the team the distinction of constructing the first British-built car to win a World Championship race. Vanwall went on to win the inaugural Constructor’s Championship in Formula One in 1958, in the process allowing Moss and Brooks to finish second and third in the Drivers' Championship standings, winning three races each.

The car we are pleased to offer for sale was commissioned by a U.K. based collector and Formula One afficionado. He sought the ultimate 50s race car experience for a day at the track with the ability to drive it home afterwards along the winding back roads of Surrey. It was built under strict supervision by the EU & UK Vanwall trademark owner to be as close to an original ’57 race car as possible yet also be very usable on the road.

It is finished in Vanwall Green with Vanwall lettering in white on the side. This amazing car features a hand shaped, highly finished aluminium body, a tool room copy of the original, and a work of art in its own right. The interior is again authentic and all components carefully chosen to complete the picture. Detachable mudguards and lights enable a road going transformation in very little time.

The chassis is a steel space frame based upon the Chapman Vanwall original. To complete the Chapman influence there’s a fully rebuilt Classic Lotus Twin Cam 2.2 litre 4-cylinder engine sending 220 bhp to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox.

This official Vanwall, whilst a replica, has a Vanwall VIN number and is IVA passed, DVLA road registered and recently MoT’d for UK. It was most recently serviced in July, 2022 where Autofficina carried out a full inspection and replaced the dampers and bushes to ensure the car drives superbly. The car maintains a history file documenting the full specification and sits today in fantastic condition showing just over 100 miles since being built.
