The Jaguar E-type was produced between 1961 and 1975 and quickly became an established icon of the motoring world thanks to its combination of strong looks, high performance and competitive pricing. It received the famous accolade of being the "most beautiful car ever made" according to none other than Enzo Ferrari!
The series 1 cars were produced between 1961 and 1968 and are by far the most valuable and desirable. The E-Types produced from 1961-1964 had 3.8 litre straight 6 engines and partial synchromesh transmissions, whilst the later cars made between 1965-1967 had an increased capacity of 4.2 litres as well as the addition of a fully synchronised transmission.
The example that we are pleased to offer for sale is a lesser-known Series 1.5 4.2 Roadster that was produced in September 1967, right at the end of the Series 1 production. The Series 1.5 cars featured open headlights as well as uprated seating and interior. The car is finished in Red over Black leather with a Black mohair roof. The car also maintains a Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirming its matching numbers engine and gearbox.
During 2007 and 2009 this example was treated to a ground-up nut and bolt restoration, supported by photographic evidence as well as various bills and receipts for mechanical works. There is documentary evidence of well over £100,000 being invested in the car. The car has since been enjoyed sparingly and is currently showing just 68,425 miles from new.
This rare example represents the best of both worlds, Series 1 looks with Series 2 mechanical components and reliability. These include the all-synchromesh gearbox, sunken foot well, wider seats, Series 1 bonnet and front grille, triple SU carburettors, one-piece inlet manifold, fluted cam covers, eared hub caps on steel chrome wheels, and Series 1 centre panel with ignition lock, tumbler switches and starter button.
This car represents a wonderful opportunity to purchase an E-type that has both superb provenance and benefits from a superb restoration. Contact us now for more information or to arrange a viewing.
