The Jaguar E-type was produced between 1961 and 1975 and quickly became an established icon of the motoring world thanks to its combination of strong looks, high performance and competitive pricing. It received the famous accolade of being the "most beautiful car ever made" according to none other than Enzo Ferrari!
The series 1 cars were produced between 1961 and 1968 and are by far the most valuable and desirable. The E-Types produced from 1961-1964 had 3.8 litre straight 6 engines and partial synchromesh transmissions, whilst the later cars made between 1965-1967 had an increased capacity of 4.2 litres as well as the addition of a fully synchronised transmission.
The car we are pleased to offer for sale is a desirable RHD Series 1 Fixed Head Coupe that rolled off the Coventry production line on the 30th October 1962. Being one of the earlier Series 1 cars produced it featured the 3.8 litre version of the iconic straight six engine. It was ordered new in Opalescent Silver Blue over a Light Blue leather interior and was equipped with a Radiomobile 900T Stereo System.
The car was supplied new to the United Kingdom and was first sold on the 18th April 1963 by Henlys Ltd of London to its first owner a Mr G S Baduel Esq of London SW1. In 1993, the car was subject to a complete ‘nut and bolt’ restoration to original factory specification with leading Jaguar Specialist Fullbridge Carriage Company. The engine and gearbox were rebuilt by Gordon Spooner Engineering Motorsport.
In late 2020, the car was purchased by its current owner who treated the vehicle to a restoration and mechanical overhaul with Jaguar specialists WinSpeed of Guildford. Included in the restoration was a full bare metal respray in its original Opalescent Silver Blue colour and a full interior retrim in Dark Blue leather.
The car has covered just under 9,000 miles since its first restoration in the 1990s and maintains an extensive history folder with a large number of invoices detailing the various works carried out over the years as well as a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate, confirming its matching numbers and original specification. There is also a collection of photographs documenting the recent overhaul and bare-metal respray with WinSpeed in 2021.
The Series 1 E-types are by far the most desirable, with this particular restored example being one of the finest on the market. Contact us now for more information or to arrange a viewing.
