Description

62 years after the last D-Type left Browns Lane in 1956, Jaguar Classic stunned the motoring world by announcing in 2018 that they would complete the story: 25 meticulously hand built Continuation examples of the car that defined an era and secured three consecutive Le Mans victories between 1955 and 1957.

Back in 1955, Jaguar had intended to produce one hundred D-Types. Only 75 were completed before fate intervened. The devastating 1957 fire at Browns Lane destroyed nine freshly built cars and forced Jaguar’s temporary withdrawal from motorsport, bringing an abrupt end to D-Type production.

The Continuation programme gave Jaguar a chance to finish what they started. Each car was built to original specification, with clients able to choose between the Short Nose customer specification or the iconic Long Nose Works configuration. The latter, like the example offered here, is immediately recognisable by its elongated bonnet and distinctive tail fin behind the driver’s seat.

Power comes from Jaguar’s legendary 3.4-litre XK straight-six with a wide-angle cylinder head, delivering an impressive 320 bhp, the same unit that propelled the D-Type to Le Mans glory. Quick-change brake callipers, period-correct detailing, and absolute fidelity to the original engineering drawings ensure these cars are not replicas but true D-Types in every sense.

Each Continuation was crafted by Jaguar Classic at their state-of-the-art Classic Works facility in Warwickshire. More than four thousand hours of painstaking labour went into every car, blending traditional hand-built craftsmanship with cutting edge CAD modelling and 3D scanning to guarantee exact dimensional accuracy down to the last rivet.

The Long Nose example we are privileged to present has remained with its original owner since new and has never been used. Finished in the evocative Scottish Racing Blue of Ecurie Ecosse with contrasting white roundels and an Aged Tan leather cockpit, it encapsulates the spirit of Jaguar’s golden era of competition.

This is an extraordinary opportunity to acquire what is, in essence, a brand-new D-Type, fully road legal, currently registered in Guernsey, and offered nett of taxes. Whether for a spirited Sunday drive, a continental tour, or even a pilgrimage to the Le Mans Classic, this D-Type Continuation is ready to deliver one of the most authentic historic driving experiences available today.
