Description

The Ford GT was conceived as a centenary celebration by Ford Motor Company, immensely proud of its legendary racing history and eager to honour the Le Mans-winning Ford GT40 of four decades earlier. The GT40 concept debuted at the 2002 North American International Auto Show amid a wave of fresh thinking and retro-inspired design that saw famous nameplates return to prominence. Closely echoing the original’s proportions and dramatic presence, the production car retained the low roofline, just 43 inches tall, wide haunches and signature round tail lamps, while adopting a modern aluminium spaceframe chassis and advanced materials. By late 2004, production of the mid-engined supercar, now known simply as the Ford GT, was under way, with each car beginning life in Ohio before final assembly at Ford’s SVT facility in Michigan.

At its heart lay an all-aluminium 5.4-litre V8 fitted with a Lysholm twin-screw supercharger, producing 550 bhp and 500 lb-ft of torque through a six-speed manual gearbox. With 0–60 mph achievable in as little as 3.3 seconds and a top speed of around 205 mph, the GT competed directly with contemporary supercars such as the Ferrari Enzo, Porsche Carrera GT and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. Despite its performance credentials, the cabin offered a blend of leather, aluminium and purposeful simplicity that made it usable on the road as well as the track. Just over 4,000 examples were built between 2004 and 2006, securing the Ford GT’s status as one of the defining analogue supercars of its era.

First delivered to the United States, this example is number 354 of the 2,022 cars produced in 2005 and one of only 504 finished in striking Centennial White with Blue stripes. It was specified with every available factory option, a rare distinction in the world of Ford GTs, including $5,000 painted body stripes, the $4,000 McIntosh CD stereo system, $3,500 lightweight BBS forged aluminium wheels, and $750 red Brembo brake callipers.

Remarkably, the car remained unused until 2014, when it was imported to the United Kingdom still displaying delivery mileage. Over the past 12 years it has been enjoyed sparingly and today presents in exceptional condition, showing just 1,750 miles from new.

While in the U.K., the car has been maintained by marque specialists GT101, who in 2022 fitted a full KW V3 suspension kit along with an X-pipe exhaust system. Increasingly rare and highly sought after, this ultra-low-mileage, fully optioned example would make a discerning addition to any supercar collection.
