Description
The Dino range of sports cars was named in honour of Enzo Ferrari's son, Alfredino, who designed a dual overhead-camshaft V6 engine for both road and racing use before tragically passing away at the age of 24.
The 206GT was the first model to be introduced in 1967, proving that Ferrari could compete with the likes of Porsche by producing a car in the more budget end of the sports car spectrum. The 206 featured a 2.0 litre transverse-mounted V6 engine capable of producing 160bhp at the 8,000rpm redline.
Today, the Dino 206 GT is regarded by many Ferrari connoisseurs as the more distinctive and important Dino model. It is also surely one of the rarest with just 153 of the hand-built, all-aluminium-bodied 206 GTs produced from 1968 to 1969, after which production shifted to the heavier 246 GT.
The car we are delighted to offer for sale is a LHD example, first delivered to Italy in January, 1969 via Crepaldi Automobili of Milan. In 2019 the car was treated to a full restoration with Joe Macari Classics, during which it underwent a full bare metal respray in Metallic Grey and the interior was retrimmed in Pelle Rossa with Nero leather headrests. The car also received a comprehensive mechanical overhaul during the restoration, including various suspension, brakes, and running gear works as well as a complete engine rebuild ensuring the car drives as well as it looks!
After the restoration, the car was exhibited at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed and formed a part of that year’s iconic Cartier Style et Luxe Councours d’elegance. It has been used sparingly since and sits today in stunning condition ready for its new owner.
It has been awarded red book Classiche Certification from the Ferrari Factory confirming its delivery details as well as its matching numbers engine and gearbox. This car presents as one of the finest of its type and one that would be as equally at home on a hairpin turn as it would on the lawn of a Ferrari Concours event.
