In terms of performance, the 599 GTB was a landmark car for Ferrari. It was fitted with a 6.0-litre V-12 engine derived from the Enzo and was capable of mind-bending performance. With 620 brake horsepower at 7,600 rpm, a 0–100 km/h time of 3.7 seconds, and a top speed of over 300 km/h, it is a properly quick car by anyone’s standards. Like the 575M before it, Ferrari introduced the Handling Gran Turismo Evoluzione (HGTE) package in 2009 to upgrade the 599’s already wonderful handling dynamics. Buyers could opt to add this as an option when ordering their 599, or existing owners could return their car to an authorised Ferrari dealership, where their car could be upgraded. The package includes a 10mm lower ride height, stiffer front and rear springs with adjustable shocks, a thicker anti-roll bar, new wheels, and tyres with slightly wider front wheels. Inside, the car received carbon fibre bucket racing seats with HGTE embroidery. Finally, the exhaust silencers were modified and the F1 Gearbox ECU remapped to shift 15 milliseconds faster, giving the car a more aggressive demeanour.
