Summary
An exceptionally low-mileage, right-hand drive Ferrari 512 TR, finished in its original factory Nero specification.
Description
By 1990, Ferrari found the Testarossa firmly in the crosshairs of Lamborghini’s Diablo. As a result, Maranello issued a call to arms and developed the formidable 512 TR. The car was very clearly based on the Testarossa, both mechanically and aesthetically, and paid homage to it in its name: 5 referring to displacement, 12 to the number of cylinders, and TR for Testarossa.
The car was exceptionally well received by customers and the press alike. Thanks to the seven-year production run of the Testarossa, Ferrari had solid feedback on which to build and improve an already well-rounded car. First and foremost, the interior was updated with a new steering wheel and revised seats, making the car more focused towards grand touring. Externally, the 512 TR remained almost identical to the Testarossa, albeit with a redesigned, more aerodynamic and aggressive front end.
The engine received the most substantial overhaul. Bosch engine management, Nikasil cylinder liners, 10:1 compression, and a redesigned exhaust system increased power from 390 hp in the Testarossa to 428 hp in the 512 TR, resulting in a top speed of 195 mph. Ferrari also adopted a single-plate clutch, quickened the steering rack, and fitted larger brakes to complement the car’s increased performance.
This car was supplied new in July 1992 to the renowned Brunei Royal Collection through the Asia Pacific dealer Hong Seh Motors. It was specified in right-hand drive and finished in the timeless and rare combination of Nero DS over Nero leather.
Like many cars from this celebrated collection, it saw exceptionally limited use during its early life. The car was eventually sold and imported to the United Kingdom in late 2019, showing just over 3,000 kilometres on the odometer. Shortly after arrival, it benefitted from a comprehensive mechanical overhaul and full service. More recently, in 2024, Joe Macari Classics carried out a further engine-out service, including a cambelt change. Since then, the car has covered just over 300 kilometres leaving it fully ready to drive and enjoy.
This represents a rare opportunity to acquire a highly original, very low mileage example of the most advanced and final evolution of Ferrari’s iconic 1980s supercar. Contact us now for more information or to arrange a viewing.
