Description

At the Paris Motor Show in October 1966, Ferrari introduced the 275 GTB/4, an upgraded version of the 275 GTB that had debuted two years earlier. In most respects, the new car was nearly identical to its predecessor, as it also employed the long-nose body style that had been adopted later in the original 275’s production run, which prevented front lift at speed.

The major difference in the new car was under the hood, where an upgraded version of Gioacchino Colombo’s short-block, 3.3-liter V12 engine was fitted with four overhead camshafts. The new engine developed 20 more horsepower than its predecessor, giving the nimble 275 chassis an added jolt of performance. The GTB/4 was also standard equipped with a revised arrangement of the driveshaft in a solid torque tube, effectively eliminating vibration issues that often plagued the earlier variants.

The new four-cam 275 Berlinetta was Maranello’s most dynamic road car yet, and it would forever be remembered as the last of the classic, vintage V12 front-engine models; the forthcoming 365 GTB/4 would feature completely different aesthetics, marking a transition to 1970s styling. Only 330 examples of the 275 GTB/4 were produced before the model was discontinued in 1968, adding a degree of rarity to the revered Ferrari, as well.

This left-hand-drive Ferrari 275 GTB/4 was delivered new in March 1967 to its first owner in Verona, Italy, before being exported to North America in the early 1970s. During the 1990s, the car underwent a restoration by Wayne Obrey’s highly respected Motion Products, recognised as one of North America’s leading Ferrari restoration specialists. At that time, the car was refinished in Rosso with a tan leather interior.

Between 1999 and 2020, the car was shown at several prestigious concours events across the United States, including the Cavallino Classic in Palm Beach, the Concorso Italiano in Carmel Valley, and the Amelia Island Concours. In 2020, the engine was comprehensively overhauled by North Coast Exotics, ensuring its mechanical integrity remained to the highest standard.

In 2021, the car was entrusted once again to Motion Products for a complete cosmetic restoration, this time with the goal of returning it to its original and beautiful factory colours of Azzurro Metallizzato with Rosso leather. The work included a full disassembly of the body, engine, and mechanical components, detailed compression and leak-down testing, brake system servicing, tyre fitting and balancing, and meticulous metal finishing. Extensive preparation was carried out before painting, alongside upholstery restoration and the installation of engine ancillaries. The engine was tuned on a dyno, carburettors adjusted, and the fuel system cleaned. Final assembly included the fitting of exterior trim, fabrication and alignment of the exhaust system, suspension overhaul, and careful detailing throughout.

Upon completion in early 2022, the car debuted at the prestigious Cavallino Ferrari Concours, where it earned Platino and First in Class awards, followed by Excellence in Class at Mar-a-Lago the next day, a testament to the restoration’s outstanding quality. Soon after, the 275 was acquired by Professor Gordon Murray, the legendary Formula 1 designer and creator of the McLaren F1 and GMA T.50 who registered it in the UK and proudly displayed the car at the 2023 Hampton Court Concours of Elegance.

It is offered with Ferrari’s coveted ‘Red Book’ Classiche Certification, confirming its original factory colours and matching-numbers chassis, body, engine, and gearbox. Accompanying items include recent concours trophies & paraphernalia, a detailed history folio, original tool roll, jack, and handbooks including leather pouch and its rare factory-delivered box. This exquisitely restored Ferrari 275 GTB/4 represents an extraordinary opportunity to acquire one of Maranello’s most iconic Berlinettas, combining provenance, concours-winning quality, and eligibility for major events worldwide.
