Summary
Unique opportunity to acquire a great example of the highly competitive Audi R18 e-tron Quattro LMP1 cars.
Description
The Audi R18 e-tron quattro is Audi’s hybrid pioneer in racing. In 2012, Audi was the first manufacturer to enter a hybrid sports car in the newly incepted FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). In 2012 and 2013, the company won the drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles in the WEC with its drivers. In the Le Mans 24 Hours, the diesel-electric hybrid drive remained unbeaten three consecutive times from 2012 to 2014.
In 2015, Audi drastically revised the aero setup of the R18, as well as addressed efficiency requirements for the powertrain. The most obvious difference were the bigger dive planes, as well as huge air inlets on the front wheel arches, the latter in an attempt to reduce aerodynamic drag. Such significant changes meant Audi had to have the R18's crash structure completely re-tested for 2015.
Moving along the vehicle, the sidepods were paired with new radiator configurations to help better cool the engine and hybrid systems. Finally, the rear end of the car was packaged a lot tighter which again is to help reduce drag.
In terms of powertrain, the 4-litre V6 TDI outputs 550bhp which is paired with a 268bhp electric motor that drives the front axle. Audi decided to run into the 4 megajoules class of hybrid output for its 2015 race season, which meant the revised R18 powertrain had to use 2.5 percent less diesel per lap. The end result was an R18 e-tron quattro with more power, improved efficiency and better aero.
The car we are pleased to offer for sale is chassis 416, raced in the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship by Audi Sport Team Joest and piloted by highly successful, multiple race winners; Lucas di Grassi, Loïc Duval, and Oliver Jarvis.
The car entered the 3 races in the 2015 season, the 6 Hours of Fuji, 6 Hours of Shanghai, and the 6 Hours of Bahrain where it finished 4th, 4th, and 6th respectively. This car represents the very unique opportunity to acquire an example of the highly competitive Audi R18 e-tron Quattro with racing history and driven by 3 of the most noteworthy endurance racing drivers.
