Jaguar XK120 SE Roadster
Sought after SE variant in original LHD setup. Matching numbers, finished in original colours, in fantastic all round condition and Mille Miglia eligible.
Without doubt, Jaguar's brilliant XK120 forever changed the motoring world as one of the most influential sports car designs of all time, with performance that remains impressive even by today's standards. Indeed, the XK120 redefined Jaguar as a constructor of the finest and most desirable automobiles, while its superb XK engine propelled Jaguar racing cars to five victories at Le Mans between 1951 and 1957.
To maintain the XK120's competitive edge on the racing circuit and the sales floor, a series of improvements punctuated its six-year production run. One of the most desirable upgrades arrived in 1953. Simply named SE, for "Special Equipment," this variant produced 210 horsepower with the addition of high-lift camshafts, a free-breathing C-Type cylinder head, SU H8 carburetors and dual exhaust outlets, while wire-spoke wheels and a host of other desirable features heralded its arrival as the fastest XK120 available from Coventry.
The vehicle we're offering was supplied new by Charles Hornburg of Los Angeles, finished in Cream over Blue to a couple who's collection reputedly featured a Ferrari 250 TR, a Ferrari 225 S, and Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B and a 1930 Mercedes-Benz. The car spent the next 40 years in the USA before receiving a cosmetic restoration to concours standard in 2009, which resulted in the car scoring 99/100 at the renowned AJS Concours d'Elegance in 2011. In 2012 the car received a further repaint and chrome refinishing.
Since arriving in the UK, a large amount has been spent on the car. This included a full engine rebuild with specific efforts concentrated on refurbishing the cylinder head and, as the new owner wished to drive and enjoy the car, works allowing for the engine to run on modern unleaded fuel. Other works have included constant services, fitting an electronic ignition (original retained), refurbishing the brakes, correcting the steering rack, fixing the hood & tonneau, renewing electrics, upgraded cooling and the refurbishment exhaust mounts. All of the above is corroborated with invoices within the car's history file.
Eligible for many of the world's best events; including the Mille Miglia, the car also comes complete with tool roll, jack, side windows and tonneau cover. There is also a Jaguar Heritage Certificate for the car.
