Ferrari Daytona Plexi, original EU car with matching numbers and Classiche certification.
Daytona is a name synonymous with both motorsport and Ferrari; in the case of the 365 GTB/4, Daytona refers to a car of such beauty and power, that to this day it remains one of the most important, successful and valuable cars to ever wear the prancing horse.
It is believed that the name Daytona was coined by motoring writers after a trio of Ferraris dominated the 24 Hours of Daytona in February 1967; a nickname that was instantly adopted by the public and media alike when the car was introduced at the 1968 Paris Salon. Although based on the chassis of the earlier 275 GTB/4, the Daytona was an altogether different proposition, both in terms of styling and more importantly performance. The 350 bhp from its 4.4 Litre Colombo V12 propelled the car to 60mph in under 6 seconds and to a top speed of 174 mph, the fastest car in the world at that time.
The original design of the Daytona came with full-width acrylic headlamp covers, now referred to as plexiglass; however this was subsequently changed to pop-ups from 1970 onward following a change in US regulations. With only 1,300 Daytonas produced in total, it is these early plexi cars that have become the jewels of collectors around the world, and their stock only looks set to continue to rise.
The car we are offering is an original EU spec 1970 plexi car, finished in Rosso Chiaro; potentially the strongest colour for the car, especially when contrasted with its Nero hide. The car sits in magnificent condition all round and mechanically is one of the finest examples we have ever had in our workshop; the perfect car to add to the finest of collections or to use on jaunts across Europe. Further, this vehicle comes with Ferrari Classiche certification from the factory, further making it one of the finest Daytonas on the market.
