Specification

Ferrari short wheels bases were built between 1959 and early 1963 by Ferrari SpA in Modena. In all, 167 examples were built, with the variants based upon 70mm or 90mm chassis tubes, 3 or 6 Weber Carburettors, Steel or Alloy bodies and competition standard engines or gearboxes.

These 250 Berlinetta's were supplied with Colombo designed 3 Litre V12 power units. They also had 2400mm wheel base lengths which enabled the car to have better road handling than its predecessors which had 2600mm.

The car we offer is chassis #3487 GT. It is a steel example that was supplied on the 4th June 1962 to a Peter Christian Beer via Luigi Chinetti motors of 11th Avenue, New York, USA. The Ferrari invoice states as follows: ONe Ferrari 250 Grantursmo automobile, bodied de-luxe Berlinetta, complete with five chrome wire wheels, tyres and set of tools. The car was finished in silver grey 16.003 (Grigio Argento) and black leather upholstery (Pelle Nera black VM 8500).

The price of 3487 GT when new was $7215.00... and when it arrived in the USA it was given a title document by US officials in the State of Virginia, dated June 5th 1962. Mr Beer moved from Virginia to Ohio in January of the following year and an Ohio title document was then issued in his name bearing the date of January 28th 1963, at an address in the affluent suburbs of Cleveland.

During the 1970s Mr Beer took the car to the UK where it was registered. It remained in his ownership until he sold it in 1995. The next owner. Hugh Taylor, kept it in the UK for 6 years before selling it to Mr John Nichols in the USA - who sold it back to Hugh Taylor of the UK in November 2011.

Mr Taylor then decided he would restore the car with no expense spared back to its factory condition and colours. After the restoration the car was awarded Ferrari Classiche Certification and sold to its current owner.
